Part-Time Café Kitchen Staff Member

Hours: 16-24 hours per week (Weekend availability)
Location: Cardinal Cafe – Cardinal Bicycle - Grandin Village - Roanoke, VA

Position Overview:

Cardinal Cafe; located within Cardinal Bicycle - Grandin, is seeking a friendly and hardworking individual to join our team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being part of a fast-paced, customer-focused environment. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for food preparation, meal service, barista duties, beer tending, and interacting directly with customers. You will also ensure the kitchen and bar areas are clean and well-maintained at all times.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Food Preparation: Assist in prepping ingredients and preparing dishes according to our café's menu.

  • Meal Service: Prepare and serve meals and drinks in an efficient and friendly manner.

  • Barista Duties: Make coffee, espresso drinks, and other beverages, ensuring consistency and quality.

  • Beer Tender: Serve and pour beers, ensuring customers’ satisfaction with drink choices.

  • Customer Interaction: Engage with customers, take orders, and provide excellent customer service.

  • Dish Washing: Wash dishes, utensils, and kitchenware in a timely and efficient manner.

  • Cleaning: Clean and sanitize the kitchen and bar area at the beginning, during, and at the end of each shift, including equipment, countertops, and floors.

  • Inventory Management: Assist in managing inventory and restocking supplies as needed.

  • Team Collaboration: Work with the kitchen and front-of-house teams to ensure smooth operations during service hours.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a café, kitchen, or customer service setting is preferred but not required.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive attitude.

  • Strong communication and customer service skills.

  • Ability to multitask and remain organized.

  • Must be able to stand for long periods and lift up to 25 lbs.

  • Must be able to handle cash and operate a POS system.

  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices is a plus.
